When you’re a senior you face many obstacles, that will help you but at the same time break you down. People remember high school being their happiest times of their lives. You make memories with people and experiences you will never forget and stay with you your whole life. Some people wish they could relive high school and do things they couldn’t do while they were in high school. I talked to some seniors that attend Clawson High School, and wanted to know their memorable moments from high school.
Senior Sarah Ferrett told me her favorite memory from high school would be all the basketball games and football games, and the spirit weeks. She said
“I’ll never be able to redo those things again and be a senior in highschool going to my schools sports events, I’ll miss that the most!”
When Sarah leaves high school she told me what she will miss most is seeing her friends everyday and just being here with them. Once you graduate you never really see those people again. One things she wish should would have attended and not miss was going to prom. Even though it hasn’t happened yet she just wishes she would have went. I asked Sarah if she had to describe her senior year in one word what would it be, she said
“LAME just because it was boring and couldn’t really do anything to fun”.
Another senior i talked to was Zyare Dinkins. How she felt about her senior year and what she will never forget and wish she could redo. She told me if she had to pick a favorite memory from high school she said graduation because she is ready to be done with high school already. Zyare also agreed with Sarah, what she will miss most is her friends. I asked Zyare what is one thing she regrets and she said
“I most regret not taking my classes as serious as i should have”.
Zyare also told me other than that she regrets nothings. I then wanted to see what Zyare thought of her senior year and she also said the similar thing to Sarah, that it was lame. She wished that we would have done more things and she expected it to be better then it turned out to be.

Future to Come

Through high school you face many challenges. You have to juggle your grades, friends, school work, and sports. Not only do you have to get through high school but you have to figure out your future plans. For a lot of people that can cause a lot of stress.
I talked to Charles Tarver. He’s a senior at Clawson High School, and is eighteen years old. For his whole life he has lived in Oak Park. Through high school Charles has had a good GPA. I asked him what his favorite class is he told me english was his favorite and strongest.
Through high school Charles has played sports all four years. He played football and basketball, he enjoyed both of those sports very much. Most games Charles started in. If he had to chose one he liked more he would say football. On the football team he was number seventeen and started at the teams linebacker. Each one of his games he told me he averaged about three touchdowns or more. This is one sport he will be defiantly missing once he graduates from high school.
After we talked about his high school accomplishments he told me what his future holds. I asked him he will be playing this sport in college? Charles then told me “I hope to be playing college football once i get there, and I hope one day to be playing at Michigan University”. Charles does not plan on staying at home, he plans on getting a place on campus or a apartment. When it comes to staying in Michigan or leaving, Charles told me he wants to stay in Michigan because his familys here. While attending college he plans on studying business management. I asked Charles what are his goals while in this career, he told me “To become a boss”. I then asked him if he had any advice for other high school football players he then told me “PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT”! For Charles it looks like he has his future planned out and is ready to start college and college football.
Dance Days are Over By: Courtney Olejniczak 27 March 2014
As the year comes to an end, dance days are slowly over. C.A.S.A.’s final upcoming showcase is April 25th at Clawson High School. The dancers are very exhausted, but the year isn’t over yet. They need to end the year with a bang!
Showcase audition slips were due Wednesday, March 19th. There are many different acts, such as skits, group dances, solos, duets, singers and many more. C.A.S.A. showcase isn’t just for C.A.S.A. students. Students from other schools could be in the showcase, but it mainly had to be C.A.S.A. students in the act performing.
Olivia Pope, senior at Berkley High School, is auditioning a lyrical/contemporary duet with Courtney Olejniczak. They performed their duet at the Berkley Dance Show and thought they needed some more practice.
“Now that we have had a few more weeks to practice, I believe we have a strong chance of getting into showcase. Although, I’m still a little nervous because we haven’t been rehearsing lately due to working on other dances for showcase with the class,” said Olivia.
Stephanie Babb and her boyfriend, Jake Raskin, are also doing a duet, but theirs has a twist. They’re blending contemporary and freestyle animation. They haven’t performed this before so they’re nervous.
“What we are doing is very different than most people’s style, so we aren’t sure how people will respond to it,” said Stephanie.
“I hope we make it in the showcase, we tried to have something more original, to stand out more,” added Stephanie.
Auditions are the week of the 24th; everyone is welcomed to come watch. Good luck to all.
Ready, Set, Don’t Go! By: Courtney Olejniczak 18 March 2014
Out of state colleges have many advantages and disadvantages. Once you’re a junior in high school, you start to decide what college you would like to go to. And soon enough, senior year you start applying.
Living on your own is a huge advantage, but also a disadvantage. You get to have your own rules, but your parent(s) won’t be able to do everything for you anymore. Out of state colleges offer more career opportunities and gives you a new environment to be in. The only down side is being distant from friends and family.
Tuition for out of state college is more expensive, but you could apply for scholarships.
Katie Hodge considered going to Carnegie Mellon and tuition is $60,000. Aarmond Cook considered going to Xavier where tuition is $86,160. There are traveling expenses, but it gives you new experiences.
“I am very nervous, but also so excited for college” said Katie Hodge, compared to Aarmond Cook who claims he is not nervous for college at all. “I am familiar with everything, there is nothing to be nervous about.”
Katie wanted to go to Carnegie Mellon due to their musical theatre program. Her parents are very supportive, but extremely bummed if she leaves.
Aarmond wanted to go to Xavier due to the location. His parents are very supportive and indifferent about him wanting to go to school there.
The truth is, wherever you go in life, no matter what college you go to, you will experience new things. You will learn to grow up and soon do everything on your own. Life is too short to not take risks. Live life while you’re young and stop fearing the consequences or disadvantages life will throw to you.
Senior Paper Stressing Alexis Garnett 27 March 2014
Every year Seniors are required to write a research paper. This takes place in the second semester. There is a lot of work that does go into this paper. All the due dates and research days and then just writing it.
I had a chance to talk to a former Clawson High School student. Sara Levasseur graduated last year and now is attending Oakland University. I asked her do you think the senior paper helped you prepare for college?
"Yes the paper is kind of like the papers you will be writing in college. Also in college they don't help you with the format on anything. They give you the topic that the paper needs to be on and all the requirements and then you're on your own."
Then asked her did it help you do other papers?
"Yes the Senior paper helped me with the formatting. And how to bring the papers all together, and it was really good practice."
Was the Senior paper pointless?
"No, it was not pointless because it gave you practice and gave you a look at what college papers are and their length, text, format, and everything.
So after talking to Sara, a student who wrote her paper and now in college, saying the paper helped her, it’s evident that this is meant to help us.
Also I got an opinion from a Senior that is doing her research paper now. Zyare Dinkins, is researching about the wastage on food in America. I wanted her opinion so far on writing the paper. Do you think the Senior paper will help you in college?
"Yes I do, cause it'll show that I know how to write an essay when I apply for college and while I'm attending there."
Do you wish the senior paper was in the beginning of the year?
"Yes it is too many pages and dates to wait till the end. A Senior [has] a lot of things going on at the end of the year."
Do you think the senior paper is pointless?
"No it’s going to help you in the long run."
This paper may be a lot of work but in the long run it’s worth it, and will benefit people attending college.

Doris Owens will be attending the Art Institution this fall. I interviewed her on her plans for her college life.
Why the Art Institution?
"The Art Institution specializes on what i wanna do with my career,” Doris said.
Have you wanted to go there or did you have other schools in mind?
"No I've always wanted to go there."
What are you going to major in while you’re there?
"I plan on studying music production, and become a music producer."
Do you plan on joining any clubs or fraternity?
"If they have any clubs relating to audio productions then yes!"
What are your plans after college?
"Becoming a producer and then moving to California to find a producing career out there."
Joshua Styburski will also be attending the Art Institution this fall. He will be majoring in photography while he goes there.
Morgan Rushing will also be going away for college. She will be attending Grand Valley State University in the fall. I asked her a few things about her college plans also.
Why Grand Valley?
"I love the location of Grand Valley. Grand Rapids is beautiful, and there is so much to do. Lake Michigan is minutes away and in downtown GR there are countless things to do! Also the campus is so gorgeous and new. The size is perfect for me as well. Not too big, not too small."
Have you always wanted to go there?
"I have loved Grand Valley since my sophomore year of high school. That is the year that I started to visit my sister Shebi (she is a junior at GV) on my own and go to get the real GV experience! I can’t wait to attend Grand Valley with my sister in the fall!"
What are you going major in there?
"I'm currently undecided on my major. Everyone is freaking out about what they are going to be and what they are going to do but the average is 3 for the amount of times a college student changes their major. I'm not in a rush. God will put me where I belong."
Do you plan on joining any clubs or fraternities?
"YES! I am so excited about joining a sorority! Both of my sisters have joined sororities in college and have had amazing experiences. It is a way of getting involved and feeling part of something at such a large school. Also, you get to meet a bunch of awesome people."
What are plans for after college?
"I have no idea what my plans will be after college. Shoot, that is four years away! Nothing ever turns out how you plan it anyway. I'm just going to go with the flow, and I know I will end up where I am meant to be."
